Having fun with Tinsley Transfers Temporary Tattoos

One of our favourite things to do is spend some time having fun playing with Tinsley Transfers Temporary Tattoos.

Here is what we got up to yesterday with some Vintage and Pinup Tattoos.

sweet sour pinup tattoo

We love how old school and cool the Sweet & Sour Devils look and the 1950’s Pinup is one of our most realistic tattoos.

The Pirate map tattoo is part of our Buccaneer Pirate Tattoo Kit which is a great way of putting together a themed look and the Gypsy Vintage tattoo is another great old school style tattoo.

Hope you like them and if you have any of our tattoos or any products don’t forget to send us your pictures of you wearing them : )

There is a NEW Theatrical Blood in town

We stock a brand new type of Theatrical Blood and one of the tag lines that comes with this blood is “Making Blood cool again” So I thought we’d look at whether this is just another blood product or if it is actually “Cool”

The product in question is Blood FX from Tinsley Transfers and it certainly looks cool in very eye-catching packagingBlood_FX_Front_01.

Now for anyone who doesn’t already know Tinsley Transfers is a Company best known for producing realistic Temporary Tattoos for TV and Film as well as having a very comprehensive retail range and is owned by Christien Tinsley who is an Oscar-winning Makeup Artist.  So the thought of them bringing out a makeup range is very exciting. Well we think so anyway….Our thinking is if the guy is a well-known makeup artist he probably knows what looks good and what is nice to use.

Something very apparent with Tinsley Transfers products is the amount of care and thought they put into the way their products look packaged and although you may think that doesn’t necessarily make it a good product to use it does seem that so far the quality of Tinsley Transfers products doesn’t stop at how cool they look.

So back to the blood and what makes it so different to all the other bloods out there??

Well to start with this Blood is Hydrophobic which basically means it repels water making the product waterproof yet it can still be removed with soap and water.

It’s not a syrup based Blood either which means it’s not a sticky product on your skin and doesn’t stain your skin either.

As this Blood doesn’t dry (as most gel type bloods don’t) it looks real and doesn’t go pinkish like a lot of other bloods do!

So far so good…….Blood_FX_Back_01

Now something that’s quite apparent is the size of the product and the fact that it’s quite small. Could this be the first downside of this pretty promising product?

The actual size of the vial or tube of blood is 8.2g which does seem quite small but this image that is on the back of the packaging shows how this size of blood can cover a whole torso and head. Now let’s be honest “Do you really want or need to cover a whole person in blood”?

Most people will want some blood to enhance a look or fill a wound and this blood will be perfect for that.

The conclusion we came to with the new Blood FX from Tinsley Transfers is that it looks great before you even take it out of the packaging and when you do get it onto your skin it really is COOL!!

Getting to grips with FX Wound Tattoos

Sometimes it great to just grab a few tattoos and see what you can come up with!

I like the idea of using some cut and slash FX Wound Tattoos to write words and create quite extreme skin carvings. I love the fact that you can create such dramatic effects with such a simple product!

I remember it wasn’t that long ago that to create such an effect would involve messy sticky wax to start followed by sealing that and then making sure everything is blended and that’s before you even start colouring it!

So step 1 was to think of what I wanted to write and then start cutting out different cut and slash FX Wound Tattoos to use. I find it looks more realistic of you use different width and shape wounds.

The words Save Me written in FX Wound Tattoos

The next step was very important indeed….I needed to borrow a leg to put the wounds on! this was an integral part of the process. Leg borrowed and wound tattoos cut the next step is to apply them!

So here is what I came up with! “SAVE ME” written in cuts and slashes with no mess or fiddley products needed! Just the wound tattoo sheets and some water.

I think it looks good as it is and pretty realistic but I wanted to give it that little extra something and make it look a little fresher and add a bit of gore.

Now I could have pulled out all manner of blood products that are readily available on the market today but in keeping with this little project being completely mess free and using minimal products I thought I go for something a little different and instead of using a blood product I’d just use a couple of different colours from my alcohol activated make-up palette. That way I get the look I want but the whole thing is waterproof and non sticky.

This is the finished look with the added makeup smudged on to give that look of blood and I think it just looks a bit more sore.

I hope you enjoy this quick and easy bit of makeup and if you are interested in any of our Temporary Tattoos including the wounds you can check them out on the site here http://www.spacemonkeys.co.uk/categories.asp?category=24

A Quick review of using 3d Prosthetic Transfers

3D Fx Transfers by Tinsley Transfers are a very cool looking new prosthetic transfer product that certainly looks the part.

These are latex free and need no glue to apply, like a normal Temporary Tattoo Transfer you use water to apply them so that is already cutting down on the additional products needed which is a bonus.

There are quite a few videos online and these are absolutely brilliant as they take you through the whole process from opening the packaging to applying the transfers and they even have a few good tips on colouring them. You can see the videos here

Right lest to grips with these transfers….. After opening the packaging there is a small amount of prep needed but it’s very straight forward. Then it’s just a case of cutting out the transfers you want to use.

fx transfers cut out
transfers cut out and ready to go

Now the next trick is remembering the shape of the transfer you are using as when you put it on the skin it will be face down and you will just be looking at the back of the transfer. A great little tip for this is to draw the shape of the cut or wound on the back of the transfer so you have a good idea of the shape and you can place it exactly where you want it to go.

flip the transfers over and mark out the shape of the wounds

Now you just apply them like you would a normal Transfer Tattoo. When you have picked the place you want your wound to be you peel off the transparent cover and push the transfer onto the skin. Next you soak the backing of the transfer with water and apply a little bit of pressure. There is no rush for this next bit, just keep the transfer quite wet for approx 30 seconds or so and then peel the backing away leaving the transfer on the skin.

Now you just need to powder the wounds with some transparent powder and then apply a little sealer over the top and you you’re ready to add makeup or blood if needed. We were going for a fresh zombie look so we went a bit crazy with the blood and added some white mesh contact lenses that give a really good dead eye look.

I think overal these transfers are fantastic to work with! There is no mess, no additional products needed and you can use any type of makeup over the top of them. The Instructions included on the pack are good and easy to understand but as I said earlier the videos online are really good to have on hand.

There is a quite a good range of 3D FX Transfers out at the moment and they come in Small and Medium sizes. If youd like to see the ranges you can find them here

Getting Gory with Gorywood

The Gorywood range of Temporary Tattoos from Tinsley Transfers is a range of Wound and Scar tattoo sheets that make it easy for you to create nasty looking wounds really quickly and easily. Each sheet is themed and for the look I was creating I chose the “Human Carving Board” sheet which consisted of lots of cuts and slashes and some bigger ready made words and symbols

Here are some wound tatoos I was planning on using and the FX Veneer teeth I used for the look

The first thing I did was cut out a few of the tattoos that I thought I’d use and I also had some Wired FX Veneer Teeth from Dental Distortions which would finish off the look nicely.

These tattoos are transfers that are applied with water so the next step is simply make sure your skin is clean and free from any oils (I use Isopropyl Alcohol for this) pick where you are going to place the tattoo and then peel off the transparent backing and place the tattoo on sticky side down. The next step is to soak the back of the tattoo with water for approx 30 seconds or so and then slowly peel away the backing to reveal the tattoo underneith

Once all the tattoos were on and looking good I wanted to add a little blood but I didn’t want to use sticky, messy blood so instead I just added a few washes of Alcohol Activated Makeup. Now I know most people use Skin Illustrator palettes but I was on a budget so used a great product by Michael Davy. Once dry the whole thing is water proof so no chance of it coming off until I want to remove it. (removal is easy with Isopropyl Alcohol or Baby Oil)

The finished look with the teeth in

So this is the finished look of this very quick and easy character makeup using only a handful or Temporary Tattoos, some Alcohol Activated makeup and a pair of FX Veneer Teeth. I had great fun doing this and I hope you enjoy seeing it and at some point try it yourself
